Need a tooth removed?

Need a tooth removed? Ask about immediate tooth replacement

One of the key differences in our emergency service is that our care does not necessarily end with an extraction.

If a tooth cannot be saved, suitable patients can be assessed for immediate dental implant placement at the same appointment as the extraction.

Where the clinical conditions allow, a temporary tooth may also be possible on the same day.

For suitable patients, this may mean:

Remove the failing tooth

Place the dental implant during the same appointment

Provide a temporary tooth where clinically appropriate

Complete your definitive tooth replacement

This can be particularly valuable when a front tooth is involved and you want to avoid a prolonged visible gap. Immediate implant placement is not suitable for every patient or extraction site and requires appropriate assessment.

What dental emergencies can we help with?

You do not need to know exactly what is wrong before contacting us.

treatmenticon

Severe toothache

Persistent or throbbing tooth pain can be caused by decay, infection, a cracked tooth or inflammation of the dental nerve.

EMERGENCY TOOTHACHE
treatmenticon

Dental abscess or facial swelling

Dental infections can cause severe pain, swelling, tenderness, a bad taste in the mouth and sometimes fever or difficulty opening the mouth. A dental abscess requires dental assessment and should not simply be left to resolve by itself. Depending on the cause, treatment may involve drainage, root canal treatment, extraction or other appropriate care.

DENTAL ABSCESS & SWELLING
treatmenticon

Broken, chipped or cracked tooth

Whether your tooth has fractured while eating, broken unexpectedly or been damaged in an accident, we can assess how much of the tooth can be preserved. Depending on the damage, treatment may include composite restoration, a filling, veneer, crown, root canal treatment or extraction. Where a badly damaged tooth cannot be saved, immediate implant replacement may be possible in suitable cases.

BROKEN OR CRACKED TOOTH
treatmenticon

Knocked-out tooth or dental trauma

A knocked-out adult tooth is particularly time-sensitive. If you have knocked out, displaced or severely damaged a tooth, contact us as quickly as possible so that we can advise you and arrange urgent assessment where available. Where a traumatised tooth cannot ultimately be saved, we can also discuss appropriate tooth-replacement options.

DENTAL TRAUMA & KNOCKED-OUT TEETH
treatmenticon

Emergency tooth extraction

Our first aim is to determine whether a painful or damaged tooth can reasonably be saved. However, severe decay, fracture, infection, failed previous treatment or other problems can sometimes mean that extraction is the most appropriate option. If extraction is required, we can also assess whether an immediate dental implant could be placed at the same appointment.

EMERGENCY TOOTH EXTRACTION
treatmenticon

Emergency root canal treatment

Severe dental nerve pain or infection does not always mean the tooth has to be removed. Where appropriate, root canal treatment can help remove infection from inside the tooth and allow the natural tooth to be retained. Our emergency assessment will determine whether the tooth is suitable for root canal treatment or whether an alternative approach is required.

EMERGENCY ROOT CANAL
treatmenticon

Wisdom tooth pain & infection

Wisdom teeth can cause significant pain when they become inflamed, infected, impacted or difficult to clean. We can assess the cause, manage the immediate problem and advise whether wisdom tooth extraction or another treatment is appropriate.

WISDOM TOOTH EMERGENCY
treatmenticon

Lost filling, crown, bridge or veneer

A lost or broken dental restoration can leave your tooth exposed, sensitive or vulnerable to further damage. We can assess the tooth and discuss repair, replacement or temporary treatment where appropriate.

LOST OR BROKEN DENTAL RESTORATION
treatmenticon

Broken dentures

A fractured, damaged or poorly fitting denture can significantly affect eating, speaking and confidence. Contact our team and we can assess the problem and discuss emergency and longer-term replacement options. For patients interested in moving away from removable dentures, we can also discuss implant-retained or fixed implant tooth-replacement options.

BROKEN DENTURES

Pain after dental treatment or extraction

If you are experiencing severe or worsening pain, swelling, persistent bleeding or another problem following dental treatment, contact us for advice and assessment. You do not need to have received the original treatment at Pristine for us to assess an emergency problem.

PROBLEMS AFTER DENTAL TREATMENT

What happens at an emergency dental appointment?

1. Tell us what's wrong

Call, WhatsApp or book online and briefly explain the problem you are experiencing.

2. Emergency assessment

Your dentist will examine the area, discuss your symptoms and establish what is causing the problem.

3. Digital imaging where required

Depending on the problem, dental X-rays or 3D CBCT imaging may be used where clinically appropriate to help with diagnosis and treatment planning.

4. Understand your options

Your dentist will explain:

  • What is causing the problem
  • Whether the tooth can be saved
  • What can be done immediately
  • Any further treatment that may be needed
  • Your available treatment options

5. Emergency treatment

Where clinically appropriate and time permits, treatment may be carried out during the same visit.

This could include pain-relieving treatment, restoration, drainage, root canal treatment, extraction or other emergency dental care.

6. Plan what happens next

If further treatment is required, we can arrange the next stage of your care.

And where a tooth unfortunately requires extraction, we can also assess your options for immediate or longer-term tooth replacement.

When should I go to A&E?

Most dental emergencies should be assessed by a dentist. However, seek emergency medical help if you have:

  • Severe swelling affecting your breathing or swallowing.
  • Heavy bleeding from the mouth that will not stop.
  • A serious injury to the face or jaw.
  • A significant head or facial injury associated with loss of consciousness, vomiting or double vision.

If you are unsure which service you need, contact NHS 111.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get an emergency appointment today?

We offer same-day emergency dental appointments where availability allows.

Contact us as early as possible, and our team will advise you of the earliest available appointment.

Do I need to be an existing Pristine patient?

No. We welcome both new and existing patients for emergency dental appointments.

Are you open at weekends?

Yes. Pristine Dental Group is open 9:00 am–5:30 pm, 7 days a week.

Can you treat the problem at the same appointment?

Where clinically appropriate, treatment can often begin or be completed during the emergency appointment. This depends on the diagnosis, treatment required, clinical circumstances and available appointment time.

Can you replace an extracted tooth immediately?

Where an extraction is clinically indicated and can be safely undertaken, same-day emergency extraction may be possible.

Not every patient or implant site is suitable for immediate loading, so this is determined following clinical assessment.

Can you place an implant immediately after an emergency extraction?

Yes, in suitable cases. If the tooth cannot be saved, we can assess whether a dental implant can be placed immediately following extraction.

Suitability depends on factors including the condition of the tooth, infection, available bone, gum health and whether adequate implant stability can be achieved.

LEARN MORE ABOUT IMMEDIATE IMPLANTS

Do you treat dental abscesses?

Yes. We assess and treat dental infections and abscesses. The appropriate treatment depends on the cause and may include drainage, root canal treatment, extraction or other care.

Can I come to you if another dentist carried out my original treatment?

Yes. You do not need to have received your original treatment at Pristine Dental Group for us to assess a dental emergency.

What if I don’t know what treatment I need?

You do not need to diagnose the problem yourself.
Simply tell us what symptoms you are experiencing, and your dentist will investigate the cause and explain the available options.
